    Deduplication is a native Proxmox Backup Server technology that detects identical data blocks between multiple backups and stores them only once. In practice, only modified blocks are transferred with each backup (block-level incremental). Result: you save up to 70% of storage space and bandwidth, while keeping complete restore points.

    LTO (Linear Tape-Open) is a magnetic tape format designed for long-term archiving. An LTO-9 cartridge stores up to 18 TB and preserves data for over 30 years. Unlike hard drives, tapes are not subject to continuous mechanical wear or electronic failures. With NimbusBackup, LTO archiving complements disk backups to provide a third level of offline protection, ideal for regulatory compliance and long-term retention.

    RPO (Recovery Point Objective) is the maximum amount of data you accept to lose: an RPO of 24h means your last backup is at most 24h old. RTO (Recovery Time Objective) is the maximum time to restore and bring your VMs back online. With NimbusBackup, RPO depends on your backup frequency (up to hourly). RTO depends on your volume and your bandwidth: on disk plans the data is online and the direct PBS restore starts immediately.
