Double Drive PBS

Double Drive PBS is a Proxmox backup solution with automatic replication across two geographically separate sites in Europe, in our own Equinix Paris racks or on servers rented from major French or European hosting companies (such as OVH). Your data is protected against local disasters.

Replication is asynchronous to avoid impacting your backup performance. The replication delay is typically less than a few hours.

Yes, in case of a disaster on the primary site, your data remains accessible from the secondary site. The failover is managed by our technical team.

By default, we deliver the account without delete permission: it can back up and restore, but cannot erase anything. An attacker or ransomware that takes over your Proxmox VE or servers therefore cannot delete the backups already sent, which limits the impact of a breach on your side. Limits: deletion remains possible if you asked for a datastore administrator account, if we ourselves are breached, or through a security flaw in PBS. PBS snapshots replicated across 2 sites let you restore a snapshot taken before the attack, from the second site if the first one is hit. Client-side AES-256 encryption adds an additional layer of protection.

RDEM Systems keeps both PBS instances operational 24/7 across 2 sites. Our team handles planned maintenance, inter-site synchronization via PBS sync, and emergency interventions — including failover to the secondary site in case of disaster.

Client-side encryption is not on by default, you decide — and we always recommend it. Once enabled, your backups are encrypted with AES-256 by proxmox-backup-client before they leave your infrastructure, with a key that stays with you. The option is set in Proxmox VE (Encryption tab of the PBS storage). Only you then hold the key: neither RDEM Systems nor the datacenters can access your data in clear text. Keep that key outside the infrastructure you back up: without it, nobody can restore.

Yes, proxmox-backup-client can be installed on any Linux server, not just Proxmox VE. You can back up your physical servers, VMs, and containers to your managed PBS with geo-replication included.
